Week 2 - Copyright with Padlet
Lesson Outline
Use in Classroom: I intend to use this padlet as a review guide for students and parents in reference to the American Revolution. The links, photos, and music provided are all for review purposes to use and explore for the final project.
The students will be able to analyze at least 4 of the most important events and documents in the American Revolution.
Before introducing the final project, I would like to spend at least a day incorporating copyright into my teaching. Honestly, I had never given it quite much thought until starting my Master's and I now see the value and importance of it. Since technology is in our every day grips, I think it is important to spend time talking about the advanced search and giving credit where credit is due. I would like to team up with our iPad Specialist Teacher to see if she could spend time discussing this as well during the Special time.

Application: The readings from week 1, specifically the Coherence and Redundancy Principle, helped plan my thinking for this lesson idea using padlet. The American Revolution covers a lot! Therefore, I picked a few of the most important events and got ride of the extra material that isn't as essential to meeting mastery of the standard. Furthermore, with padlet, it's easier to use graphics which is something the Redundancy Principle states is more meaningful. I made sure to place in a few photos because of that principle from the readings last week.
Reflection: My thinking this week has changed into being thankful I am able to work on my Masters in technology because of how useful it will be for my students. I've been feeling a bit overwhelmed with all the things I have going on and not knowing how to use the padlet had me worried. However, after starting work on it I was having fun! The copyright information was also good to read about and watch. I especially enjoyed the fair(y) tale clip. I am going to start making a more conscience effort of checking the copyright with the materials I use in my classroom. One tension I noticed was the Signaling Principle with padlet. I wanted to organize my artifacts in a certain way, but could not figure out how to do that. The Signaling Principle calls attention to certain things and I was hoping to do that with Padlet but wasn't able to. I definitely grew in my knowledge on copyright and use with Padlet. I'm excited to show it to my students!
Hi Jaclyn,
ReplyDeleteI agree with your thoughts on using Padlet. I was hesitant at first as well but found it very easy to use. I like how you used it to review content. After this week I've made the commitment to using content with the appropriate license. I think it's also important for us to teach our students how to utilize the Creative Commons licenses as they create their own digital content.
Jaclyn, I think you did an excellent job at finding high quality resources that will enhance student learning about the American Revolution. Your use of design principals helped make this into an awesome padlet! I love that we can direct students attention to a padlet like this so that they can explore it at their own pace.
