Week 7: Evaluation and Assessment

Image
Multimedia Assessment:      This video with questions would be a formative assessment guide for me to check for student understanding of the quadrilateral attributes that we learn in 5th grade. Number Rock. Camp Quadrilaterals. 27 July 15. http://numberock.com Accessed 4 June 17. SURVEY: End of Year Reflection that I plan on giving to my students this last week to fill out. Click here to access it. Or see below. Loading... Project Based Learning Rubric: This rubric was designed for a PBL activity that I would have my students complete in math. It targets the 5th grade CCSS of the coordinate plane. The goal would be to create a map, using a coordinate plane, to give directions to another group on how to get to a certain place in the school. Use in the Classroom:       I intend to use the rubric to assess the students learning on a scale rating of 4 - 1. I will look at their product and give them a score, along with having themselves score their group, an

Week 6: Concept/Mind Mapping

Week 6 Use in the classroom:       I could use this mind map I created with my students as an example to show them how to organize their own notes. This would give them a more organized tool of how to take notes, as compared to just jotting them down in a google doc on notability. The focusing question I used to create this mind map was " What are the 3 branches of government and what is their role? " Learning Objective: Students will name the 3 branches of government and paraphrase each branches role using a mind map to explain their understanding. I will incorporate collaboration by allowing students to work in groups of 3 to complete this mind map. Each person in the group could pick a branch to become an expert on. I would also like to utilize a Jigsaw strategy for collaboration as well where each branch meets up to go over their notes before reporting back to the group for the creation of the mind map.      In order to develop a culture of collaboration I like to st

Week 5: Augmented Reality

Week 5 Use in the classroom:       I intend to use the Aurasma I created for my students as a resource for them to help with the order of operations. This will support their learning because it provides different choices for them to view about the order of operations. They can watch videos, read more about it, and practice with an enrichment lesson. Learning objective: The students will be able to understand the order of operations and then apply it to problem solve numerical expressions.      When I attended MACUL this Spring, I was at a session that used augmented learning. I was a bit overwhelmed at it and put it on my summer-to-do list. When I read through this weeks materials, I was so excited! The ladies that presented on this at MACUL made it look wonderful and I was hoping to be able to figure something out for my students. I plan on using this as an introduction to Aurasma when going over the order of operations. Then as my students get familiar with the tool, I would like

Week 4: Using Video

Image
Part One:  In our 5th grade science curriculum, students learn about the human body and how it works. The four main systems we analyze with our students are the skeletal, digestive, respiratory, and circulatory systems. I would utilize this video as an engagement hook to introduce students to the new unit. I would ask them to write down words they are unsure of and create a KWL Chart after watching this. I  would then revisit this podcast at the end to see if the students can fully understand what is happening. Furthermore, I'd like to have them specify which system(s) are being discussed in the podcast and how they know that. This video is appropriate for fifth graders and goes right along with the body systems unit that we teach. I'm excited to use this next year because I believe that it will enhance the unit with further inquiry as I introduce the unit with it and then call for a reflection at the end. Since the video takes on a narrative perspective and "trave

Week 3: Digital Images

The collage I created below was from an image of the Constitution. I would show this to my students at the beginning of the year when we are creating our Classroom Constitution and at the end when we talk about the American Revolution. Please click here  to access my GIF. This GIF I would use for a reflection on the Revolutionary War. The Revolutionary War is a part of our 5th Grade Social Studies Curriculum and in showing this I would question the students on what they believe is to come. Below you will see my infographic that I created on the Road to Revolution. This is a topic with many standards that are covered in the 5th Grade Michigan Social Studies curriculum. Use in the classroom:      All of these artifacts I would use for the unit on the American Revolution. I created these tools to be used as review for the students. In addition, the infographic can be an example of something they could create for their final project on this unit. A learning objective for this:

Week 2 - Copyright with Padlet

Image
Lesson Outline Use in Classroom: I intend to use this padlet as a review guide for students and parents in reference to the American Revolution. The links, photos, and music provided are all for review purposes to use and explore for the final project. The students will be able to analyze at least 4 of the most important events and documents in the American Revolution. Before introducing the final project, I would like to spend at least a day incorporating copyright into my teaching. Honestly, I had never given it quite much thought until starting my Master's and I now see the value and importance of it. Since technology is in our every day grips, I think it is important to spend time talking about the advanced search and giving credit where credit is due. I would like to team up with our iPad Specialist Teacher to see if she could spend time discussing this as well during the Special time. Application: The readings from week 1, specifically the Coherence and Redundancy
